Stuck for something to do this summer holiday? Join York Urban Buzz for a family friendly, fun, bee themed tea party and pollinator prowl! We have story telling by Hoglets, fun art activities, a pollinator photo booth, bug hunts and more! The event is to raise money for York’s Urban Buzz project which is giving 100 York parks a ‘bee makeover’ by planting wildflowers, trees for bees and opening ‘bee hotels’.
Alice Farr said “the Tea Party promises to be great fun with lots of activities for children all based around bees and all our buzzing buddies! What a lot of people don’t realise is that many of our favourite foods, including strawberries and chocolate, are dependent on insect pollination. What better way is there to celebrate this than having a tea party! We’ve had great support for the event so far with donations from City of York Council, Travis Perkins and Hoglets.”
Working in partnership with City of York Council, York Urban Buzz is making 100 York’s parks better for bees by planting wildflowers, planting trees for bees, opening ‘bee hotels’ and much more. The brilliant thing about this is that by making our parks better for bees we will have stunning and inspiring parks for us to enjoy.
Alice continued “The event is free but we hope that people attending are able donate £4 to the project. This money will go straight into our appeal to raise £5,000. This money will enable the project to give 100 York’s parks a ‘bee makeover’ and give out pollinators a helping hand.”
The Pollinator Tea Party is at Rawcliffe Country Park on 3rd August 2016 between 12 and 3. There is a suggested donation of £4 to attend the event. Spaces are limited so booking is essential and children must be accompanied by an adult. The event is part of a programme of events being run by York Urban Buzz during August. As well at the Tea Party there will be a ‘Pollinator Prowl’ and courses on ‘how to manage a wildflower meadow’.
