Buglife the leading charity in Europe for insect conservation have been busy spinning a new website. A key feature of the new clean cut website is the addition of a multi-media tool that enables readers to change the words into around 100 different languages including many as audible read outs. There are also special tools to assist people with colour blindness and other visual impairment and even a special script to improve accessibility for people with dyslexia.
One of the really useful features is that the entire content can be available in Welsh where as in the past there were only selected pages available in the Welsh language. Beyond improved accessibility the site aims to have clearer user defined navigation and a new bug identifier that is be expanded upon over time.
The website was built by Peterborough based Free Thinking Design working closely with Buglife using the WordPress platform – the work was funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery Green Trust.
“We are really excited with our new website, the increased accessibility and enhanced user experience will be a real boon for the charity. The new site is also so much easier to operate from the back end enabling us to continual enhance the user experience.” Commented Paul Hetherington, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Buglife.
