A morning of practical citizen science training for The Flower-Insect-Timed (FIT) counts as part of the UK pollinator monitoring scheme.
The 2 hour session will cover an introduction to the UK POMs citizen science project and how to identify the various groups of pollinators as recorded via the FIT Count app. There will also be time to practice the survey methodology at Canvey Wick and you may wish to download the app prior to attending.
Surveys can be done at any time when weather is good enough, from 1 April to 30 September;
- Choose a patch of target flowers and count all insects landing on them within 10 minutes
- Insects are identified to broad groups (e.g. bumblebees, hoverflies etc.)
- Send in your count results via the PoMS website or download the free FIT Count app
