Buglife has created the first “Torbay’s Buzzing” wildflower meadow at Stoodley Knowle, Torquay, with help from Torbay Council and local volunteers from the “Friends of Stoodley Knowle” (FoSK).
Wildflower seeds were sown in three tear-drop shaped areas. These will provide a burst of colour in the summer and more food and habitat for bees, hoverflies, butterflies and other wildlife.
Over the next twelve months the project aims to create 3 more meadows in Torbay, Paignton and Brixham to help local pollinators and create vibrant wild areas for local communities.
Buglife Conservation Officer Jo Gilvear said, “It was great to sow the seeds for this meadow, and will be fantastic to see it buzzing with life later on”.
FoSK Secretary Sue Kenway noted that, “The group was formed in 2014 principally to create a managed wildflower meadow at Stoodley Knowle and we are delighted to see this coming to fruition and, thanks to Buglife and the Council, lead the way in buzzing across the Bay”. FoSK are looking for more volunteers. For more information please see their website .
